DIA 27 (16-12-2019): DE RELAX EN PELELIU

Hoy tenemos el día para descansar. Como en esta isla hay que pagar todo en efectivo…y se nos ha salido un poco del presupuesto, y no quedan muchas más actividades por hacer, hemos decidido tras el desayuno y cuando la marea lo permita coger los kayack que el hotel tiene para hacer algo de snorkel.

De modo que cuando la marea nos lo permite….cogemos nuestros equipos y vamos al ataque….la verdad que aunque la marea ha subido, tampoco hay mucha profundidad….vamos que casi podíamos ir andando….jajaja, pero bueno así nos ejercitamos para los próximos días que vamos a tener que remar y remar en la excursión de kayac que tenemos planeada para los próximos 3 días.

Total…cuando llegamos al límite con el arrecife, Kim se echa al agua, quiere probar en el mar su máscara de buceo nueva así como las aletas….yo decido quedarme dentro del kayac y sujetar el de ella. 

Tras un rato de snorkel, visto que tampoco la zona es muy interesante decide subir al kayack…hazaña nada fácil, sobre todo cuando se vuelca el kayac y entra todo el agua en el mismo y no hay orificios de salida. Su kayac está hundido, pero justo estamos a las puertas del arrecife, donde es mejor no estar, intenta levantar el kayac (ella que puede porque yo no tengo esa fuerza) y no hay manera….decidimos atar los dos kayacs y yo remando y ella nadando volvemos a la orilla, que parecía que estaba cerca….pero ahora nos damos cuenta que no tanto….

Llegamos algo cansaditas….así que lo mejor es colgar nuestras cosas para que se sequen, ducha y relax.

Uno de los nuevos “gadgets” de Kim de este año es una cinta de colgar con mosquetones en los extremos que te permite engancharlas en cualquier sitio y que no necesita pinzas porque tiene un trenzado que puedes abrir y meter un trocito de la prenda que quieres colgar….muy útil, la verdad…

El relax decidimos hacerlo en las hamacas…han colgado dos, una para cada una (ya que las quitan con la lluvia) una más baja que la otra.

Aprovecho para estrenar mi nueva almohada….regalo de Kim (ay que detallista que es madre!!!!).

Y a las 13.00 la comida preparada para nosotras….y vuelta al descanso….bueno…decidimos ir al “pueblo” a comprar algo de leche para nuestros cafecitos….

La gente sigue siendo muy amable, nos siguen parando para hablar con nosotras, de donde sois, muchas gracias por venir, bla bla  bla…

Y ahora sí que si….descanso…pero en las tumbonas….que las hamacas pueden ser peligrosas…

Sigo mirando al cielo…no llueve, pero tampoco hay sol…diferentes tonos de gris, blanco…bonitos reflejos en el agua,…pero nada de nada de atardecer bonito.

Recogemos nuestras cosas y tras la cena relax ya que a las 7.30 tenemos la vuelta a Koror.

16-12-2019 – Peleliu (Day 5)

After the last entry, I will attempt to be brief from now on……but no promises.

Today is a relax day, see as it comes day, if the tide is right then kayak and snorkel in the little lagoon in front of the hotel.

At breakfast we ask if we will be able to kayak and snorkel – yes the tide is rising so they will prepare the kayaks for us. Breakfast once again is very small!!

We are off for a fun filled paddle to a little island. Not to go past the reef as it is dangerous!! We are to paddle out then if we decide to snorkel get off near the shallows and snorkel some.

Cris decides not to snorkel as we do not think it is that great.

As you can see from the photo – not much life but there are always things that hide…..and we did paddle out for snorkeling so I decide to jump in for a look.

And Cris relaxes on the kayak….

So…..I decide that I have had enough of the snorkeling and attempt to get back into the kayak. Just to say…..there s really no graceful way to reenter a kayak while in the water. Beaching whale scenes should fill your mind right now as I am sure that is how it looked to Cris. Issue is that the kayaks that we were given did not have the water proof storage areas covered so when the beaching whale called Kim attempted to beach herself on said kayak……kayak started to fill with water……and started to sink…….making it really, really, really difficult to get back on the kayak. After 3 attempmts, the beaching whale of Kim decides to give up the fight, calls her ever ready buddy over to hep with the kayak. I tie my kayak to hers and as she paddles, I tow from the front.

After this adventure, we decide to walk to town for more milk for the coffee and some water. Lunch. Relax. Shower. Relax. Pack. Relax. Dinner. Relax. Call it a night.

I am sure that Cris has more in her part but all I remember that this day is the beaching of the whale on the kayak and an incredibly long swim. 

Good part of the day: my new fins and mask work great!!! And we survived to tell the story.

Review of the Dolphin Bay Resort: very expensive even for a remote island, nice bungalows, cool showers, very small portioned food for the price, good customer service.
